About Us
Our Mission
Prairie Places Inc. is a not-for-profit residential service agency that supports adults with intellectual disabilities within our community. Our philosophy and policies emphasize dignity and choice as rights of all individuals in our society. Our goal is to support our participants in an interdependent world, focusing on relationships and maximizing family involvement. Living situations are supported after a planning process identifies appropriate goals for each participant’s needs.
Our history
Prairie Places Inc. was founded in 1988 by parents supporting three women living in the community.
Today, Prairie Places supports 27 adults in homes city-wide. Supported by a volunteer Board, our Executive Director, Quinn Adams-Sneisen, our Coordinators, and our Support Staff assist participants to meet their goals.
Prairie Places encourages a sense of belonging, accomplishment, and responsibility to nurture self-worth and respect for others.
Staff apply the philosophy of “Gentle Teaching” to support individuals in their homes.
Prairie Places offers many in-house social programs for our residential participants to enjoy including yoga, supper club, paint night, card making, and drumming night to foster successful participation within communities of friends.
Volunteer
We welcome financial contributions from community members.
While our provincial funding covers basic needs, donations provide enhanced experiences for our participants.
Tax receipts are issued. We also welcome board/committee services to support the philosophy of Prairie Places.
Our Board meets monthly, and committees meet as necessary to accomplish tasks including: · Admissions · Financial management · Policy review and development · Housing and property management · Personnel supervision
